Twenty minutes from St. John’s, Bay Bulls has a unique character hosting whales, puffins, a rich cultural history, landmark shipwrecks, and thriving local businesses. Town staff and Council want to maintain this character and commit to action on climate change – planning for a resilient and adaptive, fiscally responsible community.
In 2019, Fundamental Inc. assisted the Town of Bay Bulls in creating a corporate greenhouse gas inventory and Local Climate Adaptation Plan. The vulnerability assessment, completed in coordination with the Memorial University Department of Civil Engineering and the NL Geological Survey, identified coastal erosion and sustainable watershed management as key priorities.
Fundamental Inc. obtained funding from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) for this 2019 scope, and sought additional funding to advance the work in 2022. This proposal was successful and Fundamental facilitated the development of a watershed model, updated climate vulnerability assessment, and eco-asset management strategy for the Town in 2023.
