Fundamental Inc. was engaged by the Town of Portugal Cove-St. Phillips to complete the feasibility study and application documents required to request pilot project funding from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Green Municipal Fund – Reduce Fossil Fuel Use in Fleets stream. Development of the feasibility study involved technical research and greenhouse gas (GHG) and financial assessment related to fleet vehicle electrification. Completion of the funding application involved cost estimating, workplan development, strategic planning, and proposal writing. Fundamental coordinated with FCM and the Town through several months of application review and revision. The application was approved and $364,300 was awarded to the Town for the purchase of 6 electric vehicles and charging stations which will replace fossil-fuel vehicles in the Town’s fleet (the Town’s financial contribution was only 20% of the total project cost). The pilot project aims to demonstrate the financial and environmental benefits of vehicle electrification in municipal fleet and rural Newfoundland contexts.
