Harbour Farmstead is an ongoing initiative in the Town of Harbour Main-Chapel’s Cove-Lakeview to address food security, waste reduction, and community economic development. Fundamental Inc. has been involved in the feasibility assessment, strategic planning, and implementation of this initiative, primarily through the development of funding applications. In 2020-21, Fundamental facilitated a partnership between the Town and econext to apply to Agriculture and Agrifoods Canada’s Local Food Infrastructure Fund (LFIF). Fundamental completed the funding application and all supporting documents. $250,000 was awarded for the expansion of the existing community garden, construction of a solar-powered year-round greenhouse, and a municipal-scale composter. Fundamental managed the construction of the greenhouse and is facilitating the development of the municipal composting pilot project.
In 2022, Fundamental successfully secured an additional $130,000 from both Federal and Provincial sources to further advance the initiative.
